People with sleep problems feel tired during the day when they should feel rejuvenated and energised. Their mental faculties are impaired as are various physical functions which is why having enough sleep is so important. Without enough sleep we simply cannot function at optimal levels and all things in our life, relationships, work and health deteriorate.
How much sleep do we need a night?
How much sleep we need each night tends to vary from generation to generation with babies sleeping as many as 15hrs a day, small children 12 hrs daily and adults an average of 7-8 hrs a day. (more…)
Natural remedies for premenstrual syndrome.
Who suffers from PMS?
At least one third of all menstruating women suffer from pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) or pre-menstrual tension (PMT). PMT and PMS refer to the same condition though PMS suggests a wider range of symptoms than PMT. PMS can last a couple of days to two weeks prior to and during menstruation though symptoms usually subside after bleeding starts.
What causes PMS?
No one knows for sure why some women suffer PMS more than others or why some women don’t appear to suffer from it at all. It is believed to be associated with changes in hormone levels though poor diet, inadequate fitness and stress can exacerbate symptoms. (more…)
Royal Jelly has long been regarded as one of nature’s super foods due to its rejuvenative, antibiotic and anti-bacterial properties.   It has many uses but is perhaps most often recommended by herbalists to women experiencing menopause, menstruation and fertility problems and to men who are looking to increase their sex drive, sperm count and stamina!
Royal Jelly is a rich source of protein, contains numerous valuable amino acids and B vitamins and as a result has many applications (aside from those already mentioned) in natural medicine. (more…)
With Swine Flu spreading across the UK and people becoming sick in vast numbers everyone should be looking to their diet for ways in which they can boost their immune system to fight off and even avoid this pandemic virus.
Our immune systems are better equipped to fight off disease and infection when healthy and strong as well as helping to ensure we aren’t susceptible to them in the first place. When our immune systems are weak we are vulnerable to all manner of illnesses.
Many people think of cleanliness first, when it comes to avoiding disease and infection and indeed government guidelines on avoiding swine flu are to use handkerchiefs when sneezing, wash hands and so on. What they should also acknowledge is the vital role food plays in keeping us healthy. (more…)

Many people believe that Human Growth Hormone can only be replaced via very costly and very painful injections, and surprisingly, they would be right. Actual synthetic Human Growth Hormone can only be administered by injection, and rightly only by a Medical Practitioner. This form of Human Growth Hormone is only given to people who have a growth hormone deficiency or those who are willing to pay for expensive and painful treatment. However, this is not the only solution for those of us who are seeking an alternative treatment, as evidence is now available which maintains that as we get older our Pituitary Gland does not stop producing Growth Hormone, only the rate in which it releases it. Therefore, there are now many oral Growth Hormone Releasers, known as Growth Secretagogues¹, readily available on the market. (more…)
Within our central nervous system Serotonin plays a critical part in in the regulation of Depression, Anxiety, Sleep, Aggression, Temperature, Appetite, Sexual Behaviour and the Sensation of Pain. Cells in other parts of the body also use and make Serotonin, but all Serotonin used by our Brain Cells has to be made within the Neurons, as Serotonin cannot cross the blood-brain barrier. Serotonin is produced by an Amino Acid called Tryptohan.
5-Hydroxytryptophan, (5-HTP), is also an Amino Acid naturally produced by the body from the essential Amino Acid Tryptohan through a process called Enzyme Tryptophan Hydroxylase.  The action of Tryptophan Hydroylase can be inhibited by many different influences, some of these include, Stress, Vitamin B6 deficiency, and Insulin Resistance, thus making the Tryptophan unavailable for Serotonin production.  As mentioned earlier, if not enough Serotonin is produced then the regualtion of  Depression, Anxiety, Sleep, Aggression, Temperature, Appetite, Sexual Behaviour and the Sensation of Pain, may be effected.

There are two types of Chromium; the first type is what we can visually see all around us every day in buildings, furniture, jewellery etc, this Chromium is mainly sourced from Chrome Ore, and is used commercially. The second type of Chromium is found within the Earth’s crust. This Chromium is commonly known as Chromium Glucose Tolerance Factor, or Chromium GTF.
Under normal circumstances we would be able to source enough Chromium from our diets, but over the years the Chromium levels in our soil has depleted and fewer foods now contain high levels of Chromium. Because of this a supplement of Chromium may be beneficial to our daily routine. (more…)
